Beauty Salon | Commercial Photographer Buckinghamshire

Beauteous Beauty Salon, are you tempted to visit? Commercial Photographer Buckinghamshire Kelly is!

A photo shoot at Red Barn Retreat was planned.  Owner Lisa is really keen to show off the hard work she and her team have put in to making their salon stand out from the crowd.  I was thrilled to be invited to take over the salon early morning before clients stream in to be pampered and beautified.  There are no dark corners in Red Barn Retreat.  It is bright, sunny, sparkling and above all, relaxing.  There is an air of calm here, the staff and friendly, warm and welcoming.  The treatments on offer are cutting edge yet feed the soul.  I think we’ve managed to achieve what we set out to do, show this fabulous place off in all it’s glory.  What do you think?  Are you tempted to treat yourself to a lovely bit of much deserved me time?  I can assure you, you’ll be well looked after and very sleepy after your treatment – look at those comfy beds!  Snugglicious.

On location – Family Portraits Buckinghamshire

Family Portraits Buckinghamshire in the great outdoors

I knew we were going to have fun photographing Family Portraits Buckinghamshire.  Great setting, gorgeous family.   I’ve known Billy & Katie for years and have kept track of their growing family. It was a real honour to be asked to make some little heirlooms for them.  The kids climbed trees, ran up and down hills and generally just did their thing.  Will, Indi and Bo are such scrumptious children.  Photographing them in the beautiful Hughenden Park gave them a sense of freedom, giving me a chance to capture that feeling.

It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.  The surroundings at Hughenden Park are like a dream come true for a photographer.  At every turn there is another opportunity to create a gorgeous image.  From the tree lined avenue to hilly expanses.  It’s hard to beat for its variety of opportunities.

One of my favourite moments was when the children all sat on a ‘log’ bench. I hid behind it with my camera and popped up to surprise them.  We got some great expressions and I was delighted with the composition of the shot.  I loved that the family had brought their sweet doggy with them and she made the photographs complete.  It’s great to bundle together on the grass or just let the kids go crazy and run around.  There are no rules when it comes to Family Portraits.  I let the family dictate what happens and give a little bit of gentle direction if it’s needed.

Commercial Photographer Buckinghamshire – Premises, Staff and Product Images

Beautiful products, stunning surroundings, lovely business lady…perfect working conditions!

What a lovely thing to be able to say.  I’m a Commercial Photographer Buckinghamshire.  Never have I photographed a location that smelled so good.  The Littlecote Soap Co. is a gorgeous local business headed up by the captivating, vivacious and wonderfully creative Elaine Stavert.  Elaine has found success by mixing potions, playing with aromas and combining natural ingredients to create a divine collection of soaps and toiletries.  All of the organic products are made and sold at their little farm shop in Dunton, Buckinghamshire.  Customers delight in browsing for gifts and treats, the very experience of walking into the shop full of beautiful aromas is worth the visit alone.  There is a large selection of different ranges, each with it’s own signature scent.  The most popular range is Gin & Tonic and my particular fave is White Wine and Fig – scrumptious!  The products are also available to purchase via their website www.littlecotesoap.co.uk.  If you can get to the shop, go!  It’s just delicious and full of great gift ideas….don’t forget to treat yourself too.

The Empire Cinema, Bridgetown, Barbados

Waiting patiently to be beautiful again

I just had to show you some of what I’ve been getting involved with out here in Barbados. I’ve blogged before about what was the old Empire Cinema in Bridgetown and want to tell you a little more about it. I had passed by this jaw-droppingly beautiful building many times over the years and one day couldn’t resist the urge to get inside to photograph. Since then I’ve been back to photograph several times & I have donated the images to a very special foundation created to save the majestic Empire. The photographs have been used on their website and in their promotional material.

BEAT Barbados are tirelessly campaigning to bring the Empire back and plan to transform it into a state of the art yet sympathetically restored centre for performing arts. If it goes ahead, The Empire could be the leading entertainment venue in the Caribbean! CEO and Founder of BEAT Barbados, Jim McGowan (seen below exploring the projection room in inappropriate footwear for such an activity) has dedicated the past two years of his life to persuading government to back his proposal, along with getting plenty of financial backing to make this happen. Some extremely well known celebrities are among those championing the project. The Empire is causing a real buzz in its own crumbly, silent and patient way.

As we stand, the Barbados Government is considering two proposals, The Empire – Theatre & Performing Arts Centre or….The Empire – A Micro Brewery. What do you think? Feel free to comment below, hope you like the images and find out more at BEAT Barbados here…

The Empire Cinema, Barbados

The Projection Room high up in the balcony.

When the Empire was originally a theatre this was through the left stage door. You can just make out a hand painted movie poster from the seventies on the right.

The side view of The Empire. If BEAT gets the go-ahead there will be a beautiful atrium added to this side of the building along with a gorgeous open plan space to breeze around in during the interval…

Stage Door

One of the three doors ‘backstage’, you can see the existing original balcony through the open doorway. The balcony would be sympathetically restored complete with new contemporary bar, cafe and rooftop terrace.

This is one of the old ticket ‘offices’.

Up in the projection room we found the old switch for opening and closing the curtains for the cinema screen.

The Empire Cinema Barbados

Some original seats up in the right hand side of the balcony. The Empire has lost a lot of its roof making it rather rotten and treacherous.  Standing there I could imagine the place crying out for help…I know, I get very emotionally attached.

Jim McGowan spending time in the place that has taken over his life for the past two years. With Jim’s passion, excitement and sheer tenacity this dream could become reality, giving Barbados & its people a place to be really proud of.

What do you think should happen to The Empire?  Speak your mind below…

Commercial Photography in Milton Keynes

GEM Catering tell the story of their business with

Commercial Photography by Kelly Jo

Working with Gina and Rachael from GEM Catering was not only great fun and exciting, it was eye opening and inspiring.  The girls create some truly fabulous feasts from their stunning kitchen out in the countryside near Milton Keynes.  The mother and daughter duo really know what they want to say about their catering business through their images.  Rachael’s sugar craft expertise dazzles and Gina creates delicious delights backed up with a wealth of entrepreneurial experience. I was able to capture the essence of what they do through their wonderful food and sparkling hostess-ery. Yes, it’s a new word and I like it.

I have some fantastic Commercial Photography packages available for businesses who want to shout about what they do with beautiful, artistic, professional images.  Why settle for plain old stock images when we can create relevant, real and wonderful photographs together?

Sarah & Dean’s Wedding at Marylebone Town Hall, London

Bunting, Pageants, Jubilation….all for Sarah & Dean!

It’s always interesting when a country bumpkin like me gets to travel beyond the fields and cow poo smells.  Wide eyed and full of wonder I arrived early at Marylebone Town Hall and entertained myself by sitting on the steps outside by the stone lions, watching the crazy hustle and bustle.  The wedding party suddenly arrived by Taxi and Routemaster Bus, the bride beating the groom by a good five minutes, go girl!

We made our way to the elegant Yellow Room for the ceremony.  Knowing that Liam Gallagher had TWICE married in this very room made me wonder(wall) if I’d feel his presence still.  Happily not.  The room in fact was filled with anticipation as two families prepared to join together with Sarah & Dean leading the way.  As the ceremony commenced Dean couldn’t hold back the tears.  Of course that set me off (man + tears = me blubbing) and I had to blink my way through their vows.  Suddenly the girls became sisters and the boys became brothers. Hugs, kisses and smiles all round.

Back on the bus, we journeyed to St. Katharine’s Docks and arrived at the intimate, sublime Riverlounge Italian.  Flags flying and bunting flapping in the breeze, the setting certainly befitted such a great celebration.  The icing on the cake was….the cake. Drum roll….a Choccywoccydoodah Cake no less!  Created in Brighton and lovingly, carefully shipped up to London, the cake was Sarah & Dean’s main reason for getting married. Well, that and the fact that they were meant to be together and clearly love each other more than…cake!  I am sad to say I didn’t get to sample it but am considering a divorce/remarry same man scenario to enable this.  I really, really LOVED this day!

HDR Photography – Boat Graveyard, Barbados

I had driven past this collection of sorry old tugs in Barbados several times but when I spotted ‘Ocean Kelly’ for sale I decided to stop and add these beauties to my collection of all things crumbly in HDR.  They make me feel sad but simultaneously hyper.  There is something about objects that were once important and the pinnacle of someone’s life, now totally abandoned and washed up, that makes me feel like I want to cry.  But then, they DO make good photos….

HDR Photography Project – a sneak preview

The Empire Cinema, Bridgetown, Barbados.

[slideshow id=12]

I’ve been working on a project for the past year and breaking from my norm.  It’s still in progress and I’m building up a body of work that’s going to be released to the world perhaps next year.  But I wanted to give you a sample of what to expect.  The images are HDR photography (High Dynamic Range) and I layer 5 identical images together taken at different exposures.  The result is very dramatic.  To add to this I’m obsessed with derelict buildings and this type of photography works rather well in such places. Textures, shadows, light and colours I find are rich and unique in these haunting, eerie, bewitching places. I’ve been lucky enough to explore and photograph such locations both at home and overseas.  Let’s start off with this one…the Empire Cinema in Bridgetown, Barbados. It started life as a theatre back in 1907 and was closed in the 1970s.  It’s in a terrible state of repair but still so beautiful and hopefully it will be restored one day. Please let me know what you think!

The Moreton Family

An Autumn walk in the countryside – in shirtsleeves?

[slideshow id=10]

Something strange is happening this October – we had beautiful blue skies and eighteen degrees of warm sunshine on our backs.  With perfect conditions for a stroll through the fields, Lottie bounded around in ditches and hedgerows, while Sam recovered from a poke in the eye from Ben. Then Sam chuckled to himself when Ben squelched his Converse into a fresh cowsplat. We had lots of fun on our little walk and it was a true pleasure to join this happy family on their warm, sunny Saturday afternoon.

There was a great deal of anticipation for this one.  I love working with a team, it’s so exhilarating when you’re used to working on your own.  The location was what got me going, somewhere secret in deepest Buckinghamshire that I’d discovered and had permission to access – more on this later.  After a long day we were all so excited by what we’d achieved, even Dom was really happy with the hair (‘perfectionist’ doesn’t come close).  It was a delight to work with these guys again and we’re already planning the next one.
